McAneny Lawyers is a boutique firm serving the Illawarra Area. The head office, located at Woonona, has operated for the past fifty years, first as Lamerton Lough And Lehman Solicitors and then as H H McLelland. The firm has operated as McAneny Lawyers for the past 20 years.

Our firm has a strong commitment to the Illawarra community, and has supported a number of the local sporting and service clubs in the area.

We also have a branch office at Helensburgh serving the Northern Illawarra and an associate office known as Lawson Lawyers at Warrawong serving the southern Illawarra region.

Steven McAneny, the principal solicitor, has over 30 years experience in the legal profession and is assisted by a team of experienced, qualified and friendly staff willing to assist clients in all matters.

Accredited Criminal Specialist

McAneny Lawyers criminal law practice is headed up by accredited criminal specialist James Howell.

James Howell is an experienced solicitor that practices exclusively in Criminal Law and criminal defence work is the core of his legal skills.

James has extensive experience throughout all Court levels of criminal litigation including the conduct of Supreme Court Bail applications, instructing in complex District Court & Supreme Court trials and litigating Local Court defended hearings and sentence proceedings.

James is available to provide consultation and legal advice to persons in custody or on remand at Silverwater, Long Bay, Goulburn, Nowra and Cessnock, Emu Planes, Lithgow, Oberon, Parklea and John Moroney correctional and remand centres.

James is on the panel of approved solicitors for the Legal Aid Commission of New South Wales in General Crime and is willing and available to do Legal Aid work.

James volunteers with the NSW Law Society Mock Trial Competition and the University of Wollongong Advocacy program as a magistrate as well as being active in pro bono legal help and advice for disadvantaged members of our community.
